Meditation Techniques

Meditation is an act of concentrating all your thoughts about a particular subject without being distracted. It is a way of relaxing and calming the mind and the body as well. Most people practice meditation because it gives a feeling of completeness and a sense of tranquility.

Aside from just sitting in a quiet area and start to chant there, here are other effective methods of meditation.

1. Control of breathing – Through controlled breathing, one is able to fully utilize the oxygen that circulates the body. This leads to an increase in tissue oxygenation in the brain, therefore one can have more control over his mind and thoughts resulting to faster self realization.

2. Reflection and deep thought – This method involves thinking of philosophical questions and finding its answers.

3. Pondering over questions like “What is my purpose in life?” and etc. – By doing this a person can further look deep within the subconscious.

4. Chanting – This technique is done by focusing one’s attention on the sounds produced by his voice and concentrating over the meaning of the word that is being recited.

5. Service – There are some people that believe that through serving others one is able to successfully make a connection with his inner self. This includes feeding the hungry and donating clothes to the poor.

6. Silence as meditation – This meditation method involves reduction of the words we speak. To avoid speaking for a fixed number of hours during a day can also be a form of meditation.

7. Musical meditation – Though many people get easily distracted when there is music, other people, however, indulge in listening to music in order to efficiently increase concentration and successfully meditate.

Try doing the techniques mentioned above and see which method is best for you. Remember that these are just ways for efficient meditation, what’s more important is the dedication of the person to do it without any feeling of self-punishment.
